Women's League

Margaret Evatt, President of St Mark's Women's League "The British League of Unitarian and other Liberal Christian Women" has associations with St Mark's and is one of three Scottish Branches comprising Scottish District. We are members of an independent association of women having association with the General Assembly of the British Unitarian Movement.

Locally we exist to provide fellowship for our members and support for the congregation of St Mark's. We meet monthly over nine months, with a programme of speaker's activities and social events. We have an out-reach liaison with an Edinburgh Convent Nursery for small children "at-risk", referred for help and safety on Professional Authority. We supply appropriate toys, craft materials, and blankets.

We support our central committee's annual charity project and occasionally send help further a field to our twinned Church Community in Chennai (Madras) India.

Contact with the wider membership is maintained through the "League Letter" (published nationally six times a year), and through biennial attendance at Scottish District Committee Meetings. Through the "District" we have representation on the Central Committee, our governing body. Central Committee organises a triennial conference, and regular smaller partnership meetings, whereby "British Leaguers" keep in touch.

At national level the "Women's League" has representation on the General Assembly Council of the British Unitarian Movement, and is represented on its Women's Advisory Council to the United Nations. Beyond Unitarians, we have achieved links with the International Association of Liberal Religious Women, and maintain contact with other women across the world.
